Electric Vehicles

For the first time in over 30 years, the transportation industry emits more carbon than the utility industry.  The growing use of electric vehicles will likely reduce this trend.

One of the concerns the driving consumer has about electric vehicles are the life and charge of the battery.  The Department of Energy has information about the development of the electric car battery - here.

In Minnesota there is an organization - DRIVE ELECTRIC - promoting electric cars as well as promoting the development of the infrastructure to support electric cars.  Minnesota's electric utilities are involved in these initiatives.

There are three categories of electric vehicles:

  • Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs)
  • Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs)
  • All-electric vehicles (EVs)

Visit the electric companies to find how they provide resources and special rates to support electric vehicles in your home or business.
